Problem

Shopping can feel hectic at times...

Shoppers often feel lost in a sea of options, struggle with variations in clothing sizes, and become frustrated by long fitting room lines. Additionally, both online and in-store platforms frequently fail to consider individual preferences or past purchases, making the shopping journey feel impersonal.

outcome

Qlo is here for all your shopping needs!

Qlo is designed to enhance both online and in-store shopping experiences by integrating SpreeAI’s technology. It addresses shopping challenges like overwhelming choices, inconsistent sizing, and lack of personalization through conversational user interfaces, AI-powered size predictions, and AR smart mirrors.

Context

What is SpreeAI

Spree AI is an innovative third-party solution designed to elevate the online shopping experience by enabling users to virtually try on clothes. This gives users a more personalized and confident shopping experience.

Research

How do people struggle with the existing shopping experience?

Through several interviews with Spree AI team members, their beta test results, and online shoppers’ reviews, we can map out shoppers’ journey both online and in-store:

We identify several key challenges in the existing shopping experience:

Overwhelming choices

Especially when the items don’t align with their style or needs.

Inconsistent sizing

Clothing sizes vary between brands or even within the same brand

Fitting room hold up

Long lines of wait will diminish shoppers’ will in trying things on

Lack of personalization

When making suggestions, brands don’t take their preferences into account

Integrating the SpreeAI into Uniqlo

We chose UNIQLO for our design solution due to their commitment to improving customer experiences through innovation and technology. This choice creates a natural fit with SpreeAI, as both brands focus on enhancing the user experience.

Design goal

Leverage SpreeAI to help UNIQLO create a more seamless, innovative, and engaging omni-channel shopping experience that enhances customer satisfaction and strengthens brand loyalty

Design challenge 1

How can we integrate SpreeAI into Uniqlo’s ecosystem

Solution: An engaging and accessible conversation AI assistant

When designing Qlo’s personality, we want it to be context aware, engaging, flexible, and knowledgeable.

We also utilized Uniqlo’s existing branding colors and typography to design Qlo.

Why use CUI to solve the problems

By incorporating a Conversational User Interface (CUI), the try-on experience becomes more personalized, guiding users step-by-step through setup, providing recommendations, and making the shopping process seamless.

Where can CUI be in implemented

CUI can be implemented in two different yet connected experiences: online and in-store

Design challenge 2

How can Qlo help online shoppers make decisions when faced with overwhelming choices and find the right size?

Solution 1: Context aware recommendations

Unlike traditional shopping method, Qlo asks for contextual information to better understand user needs. Once Qlo gathers enough information, it can provide more personalized recommendations to shoppers.

Solution 2: SpreeAI size prediction

Through SpreeAI’s photorealistic try-on, Qlo will predicts how the garment will fit using a heat map which provides a more personalized and confident shopping experience.

Design challenge 3

How can Qlo assist in-person shoppers by addressing fitting room delays and enhancing personalization?

Solution: AR smart mirror

After exploring ways to integrate Qlo into UNIQLO stores, we found that customers value hands-on interaction with clothes. The conversational user interface (CUI) provides a more accessible service while shoppers browse, adding value without disrupting the natural shopping experience.

To enhance this, we designed an AR smart mirror integrated with UNIQLO’s RFID sensor technology. Shoppers can scan items at the mirror to access outfit recommendations, product details, and more.

Key mirror UI + anatomy: we include speaking prompt in the hope of preventing shoppers from touching the mirror and keep the mirror clean.

Smart mirror in action

Onboarding: clear instructions on the mirror to guide users to place their item on the RFID sensor.

Outfit recommendations: different outfit options based on the scanned items. Shoppers can also see product details for each outfit.

SpreeAI log in support: we provide outfit recommendation to every shoppers, but only for SpreeAI users can log in to their account to activate virtual try on.

Virtual try on: utilize SpreeAI's size prediction heat map to better explain the fitting.
